Social media platforms have been the primary sources of information for many people regarding the coronavirus and healthcare in Florida. However, much of these pieces of information come from questionable sources and thus have perpetuated fear and doubt regarding COVID-19 and its vaccines.
To ease your medical concerns, here are some things you need to know.
- COVID-19 vaccines are tested and safe.
Many people think that COVID-19 vaccines are rushed and aren’t tested enough so they aren’t safe for use. While it may seem like they were rushed, there were no steps skipped, including testing, during their development. Before these vaccines were released, they have been rigorously tested and closely scrutinized to ensure their safety and effectiveness.
- The vaccines do not give you coronavirus.
Unlike some traditional vaccines, COVID-19 vaccines do not contain a live coronavirus strain. And no, these vaccines can’t modify your DNA. They rely on mRNA to trigger an immune response in our body. The mRNA doesn’t stay in the body and can’t be incorporated into your DNA.
- You still need to get vaccinated even if you’ve already had COVID-19.
While you may have developed natural immunity from the coronavirus after contracting it, we don’t know how long that will last. That’s why we recommend getting vaccinated to reduce your risk of reinfection.
